Waniku is a word that in Warao language means Moon. That Moon that from immemorial times has served as mediator in the dialogue between the mud, the fire and the creative hands. Our work has of inspiration source the Venezuelan rock art, the corporal reasons and techniques of the pre-Columbian ceramics and seals (pintaderas), as well as the basketwork of the indian towns that at the moment live in our country. Of the contemplation of the nature a new inspiration is born in the denominated factory the Sprouts of the Way.

 

 

The idea of factory of ceramics was conceived by Ana Luisa Blanco, who in addition to ceramist is indigenista anthropologist and her   brother Manuel Blanco, who has made architecture studies, graphical design and art.

Now the Waniku family counts with the participation of Manuela Blanco archaeologist with respect to pre-Hispanic ceramic technology and to the digital design.

 

The Waniku Factory has participated from its beginnings, in 1984, in different individual collective exhibitions from crafts and individuals, national and internationally.

From 1991 integrates to the Project Student Companies of the Central University of Venezuela, in exhibitions like part of the group Yaotamo Mud

Technically the work of Waniku characterizes by the use of elaborated inks and engobes from the clay harvesting in different places from Venezuela, as well as the metallic oxide use like manganese, receives, chromium and iron.

Starting off of an aesthetic concept that moves away of the call "ethnic fashion", the factory deepens more and more in its different sources from inspiration, reinterpreting to incorporate them in the designs of its products: dinner services, picture for the wall, boxes and sculptures

.

Dinner services: Stoneware circular paste boards, interjection on paste colored and later stood out with mineral oxide inks. They come on a turned wood base from finished semi-opaque.

Cards: Elaborated in colored stoneware paste, burned to high temperature. They keep in a bag from sort of artisan invoice.

 Empaque: Cardboard box corrugated or micro-corrugated with a system of closing of serafines and fiber of moriche. Each game comes with instructions Spanish - ingles. Sizes:  Extra-great (25 cms) Great (20 cms) Small (17 cms) Mini (12 cms) Micro (8 cms)
